Intergenerational Learning

Hudson Lab School is located at Andrus on Hudson, a skilled nursing home. Our unique location provides our students with the opportunity for intergenerational learning. We collaborate with Joanne Corrigan, the intergenerational coordinator who heads up the Roots & Sprouts program at Andrus on Hudson.

Young students and senior residents (aka the "Grands") alike light up in one another’s presence. They tell one another stories, play games together, and build the kind of meaningful friendships that can only develop over time. As part of their Simple Solutions project in winter 2018, students applied the Design Thinking process to create simple solutions to improve the lives of people in their community. They gained empathy and developed a deep understanding of the Grands and the people who care for them.
